The Honorable Johnathan M. Medlock is a dedicated advocate, grass-roots organizer, and transformative leader who has spent over three decades improving local communities. His unwavering passion has driven him to revitalize his community through strategic partnerships and initiatives that focus on economic development, education, mental health awareness, environmental protection, and meaningful police reform.

In 2016, Medlock expanded his impact by entering public office as a City of District Heights, MD Commissioner. He quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Vice Mayor, Acting Mayor, and ultimately becoming the 18th Mayor of District Heights. During his tenure as Mayor, Medlock exhibited exceptional leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring that residents had access to meals and necessary resources. Collaborating with faith-based organizations, non-profits, and local businesses, he facilitated Covid testing, mobile vaccinations, and financial assistance.

May 2022 marked another milestone in Medlock's career as he was appointed as a Prince George's County Councilmember. Within just three months, he achieved the passage of five significant legislative initiatives, showcasing his ability to navigate complex policy landscapes. His successful initiatives included addressing convenience store regulations, enhancing security equipment in common areas of rental properties, expanding administrative leave hours for county employees volunteering in schools, recognizing Juneteenth National Freedom Day, and supporting National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Prince George's County.
 
Known for his transformational leadership, effective legislative operations, and sound fiscal oversight, Medlock has exhibited his expertise at the federal, state, and local levels. He has demonstrated a commendable commitment to public service and is an active member of influential organizations such as the Maryland Municipal League, the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, and the Maryland Association of Counties. Medlock also serves on the board of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Black Child Development Institute, affirming his dedication to the well-being and future of children.

From 2017 to 2019, Medlock represented Maryland on the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations Committee for the National League of Cities, further exemplifying his ability to collaborate with leaders from across the nation to address complex issues.

On August 23, 2023 Medlock was appointed by the 63rd Governer of Maryland, Wes Moore to become head a new division in the Department of General Services as Assistant Secretary of External Affairs.
