Executive Staff

Mr. Zimmerman began his career in procurement and materials management in 1982 as a Materials Specialist/Materials Coordinator with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGe). At BGE Mike had a series of increasingly responsible leadership roles in supply chain positions  and he was utilized on numerous occasions to analyze, and recommend, and develop solutions in support of corporate process optimization projects.

After 20 years of Service with BGE Mike went to work for the Maryland Department of General Services, the Maryland Transit Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, The University of Maryland College Park, Chase Brexton Health Care, and most recently the Maryland Department of Transportation. 

While at the Maryland Department of Transportation as the MDOT Chief Procurement Officer Mike had direct oversight of all procurement, materials management functions, and policies and procedures in the Office of the Secretary (TSO) and at the Maryland Transit Administration, as well as direct oversight of the Office of Project Quality Management. The MDOT CPO also set policy and procedure for the Agency as well as coordinated agency wide procurement initiatives.

In January 2022 Mike was appointed as the Chief Procurement Officer of the Maryland Department of General Services Office of State Procurement. Mike is a Certified Professional in Supply Management CPSM (ISM), Certified Purchasing Manager C.P.M. (ISM), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (ASQ), and a Certified Quality Auditor (ASQ), and a trained ISO 9000 quality system auditor.
