Chief Wilson began his more than 30 years in law enforcement and security with the Maryland State Police. In September 2011, he was appointed Chief of Police for the Department of General Services, Maryland Capitol Police, which is the primary safety and protection service for state employees and visitors at state buildings. 

The agency provides law enforcement and security services for over 30 state buildings, 10 parking garages and 16 surface parking lots. This includes the Annapolis and Baltimore office complexes. In addition, the agency is responsible for operating one of the largest state identification card programs in Maryland. During the 90-day legislative session, MCP reviews, approves and has a presence at rallies and demonstrations that occur in Annapolis.  

Prior to assuming leadership of the Maryland Capitol Police, Chief Wilson was a Maryland State Police sergeant and performed many different job functions statewide during his 23-year tenure. He also served in management and leadership roles, including with the Governor’s Executive Protection details and as Commander of the Legislative Security Section and State Senate Sergeant at Arms.

Before his career in Maryland law enforcement, the Chief served four years in the United States Air Force as a military police officer and security specialist.  He was awarded the “Air Force Achievement Medal” for meritorious service as well as the “Air Force Good Conduct Medal.” Following his honorable discharge in 1988, he was accepted into the Maryland State Police Academy.  

Chief Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Johns Hopkins University. He also received a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Hopkins.
