Specialization
The Green Purchasing Specialization is a voluntary training program open to all Certified Maryland Procurement Officers (CMPO). The training is conducted annually, and covers climate literacy, the green marketplace, Maryland laws and regulations, and how to green a contract.
If you are interested in participating in a future training, you can indicate your interest by
filling out this form. We will reach out to you once course registration is open.
Continuing Education Requirements (

As part of the renewal requirements for the Maryland Green Purchasing Specialization, graduates are required to complete 9 credit hours of continuing education within 3 years of course completion. Questions about continuing education requirements can be directed to:

Eligible Activities
Webinars
Educational and industry webinars on green purchasing can each be used to fulfill 1 credit hour. In addition to the State of Maryland and the Green Purchasing Committee, the following organizations frequently offer eligible events:
Greened Contracts
Any agency or state-level contract that the Green Purchasing Specialist has greened can be used to fulfill 3 credit hours.
For a contract to be considered green, it must include:
Maryland Green Purchasing Specification or General Specification
Green Language from a Third-Party Organization such as a Federal Agency or a State or City Government.
Other green language such as requirements for recycled content, energy efficiency, water efficiency, hazardous or toxic material prohibitions, etc.
