Personal Records and Geolocation Data

Maryland law requires governmental entities to establish procedures addressing the sale and redisclosure of personal records and geolocation data in ways that may harm the privacy of Maryland residents.

DGS has established procedures addressing the protection of this information, including considerations related to:

  • The sale and redisclosure of personal records and geolocation data
  • Contractual restrictions on the sale or redisclosure of information
  • Privacy risks associated with data brokers and secondary uses of information
  • Geolocation, genetic, and other sensitive data
  • Measures to protect residents and limit unauthorized commercial use or redisclosure

These procedures were developed in consultation with the Maryland Department of Information Technology in accordance with Maryland State Government Article § 10-1702.
