Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program

Electrification of the state’s fleet is an important aspect of Maryland’s climate change mitigation strategy. As electric vehicles (EVs) enter the fleet, state facilities will need adequate charging infrastructure in place to support them. To this end, DGS is taking the lead in establishing a statewide EV infrastructure strategy, and ramping up the installation of charging equipment at state-owned facilities.

The Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022 requires that the state's fleet transition to zero-emission vehicles and names the Department of General Services to ensure adequate charging infrastructure at state facilities.

The state also encourages charging of private vehicles where workplace charging is available. In 2024, DGS was awarded EVAL Gold status for its transportation electrification and workplace charging initiatives.

State agency staff are invited to participate in bi-monthly EV strategy stakeholder meetings and to join the state government EV Ambassadors group to share information and promote transportation electrification in Maryland.
