History and Mission of the GPC
Established by the Green Maryland Act of 2010, the Maryland Green Purchasing Committee (GPC) administers an environmentally preferable purchasing program for the state.
The goal of the GPC is to foster the health of our communities and environment by promoting sustainable procurement practices in government.
Benefits of green purchasing include:
- Clean air, water, and soil
- Healthy communities
- Stable ecosystems
- A reduced carbon footprint
In this line, we develop and execute statewide green purchasing policies, guidelines, programs, best practices, regulations, and conduct trainings to raise general awareness for these important issues.
